Team Profiles for Clarity In Marketing
Gillian Angel, Managing Director
Gillian's has been a marketing professional for 20 years. Her career has been characterised by a number of 'firsts'. She was among the first intake of females sponsored by Corus. In her first role after graduation she was responsible for the marketing of Chep which was first in its sector and grew in that time from £5million to £60 million. From there she moved to Omnicom forming a key part of the UK's leading specialist marketing consultancy & providing marketing advice for public & private sector clients.
For the next 10 years she worked in the City of London being the first female and one of the longest serving marketing directors of a financial services organisation. There she also set up an international network of accountants and lawyers plus a management consultancy.
Next was a joint venture with a team from BDO to set up a public & private sector consultancy who’s clients included many public sector organisations, Wembley National Stadium and a host of dot.com businesses.
For the past 5 years Gillian has put all her various experiences into practice, running her own specialist marketing consultancy, *Clarity in Marketing.
As a Chartered Marketer, Gillian advises organisations on marketing strategy, branding and customer engagement. The growth of digital media is transforming the way people communicate with each other and with organisations. This is causing a revolution in marketing and creating new challenges and opportunities. Gillian has been instrumental in keeping our clients at the forefront of these changes by helping them to apply the best practice from across the industry. Excellence in marketing and gaining the enthusiastic commitment of all stakeholders is at the heart of everything she does.
Gillian is a regular speaker on the lecture circuit on branding, ethical marketing, emarketing and changing consumer behaviour.
Mike Lewis, Director
After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Design, Media and Management from Thames Valley University, Mike’s early career was as a marketing and communications manager working in the higher education, IT and the financial markets sectors. In 1999 he joined management consultancy firm Oakleigh Consulting as senior consultant specialising in marketing communications. Today he works on a broad range of clients in both the business to business and consumer sectors. These include high street retail, eCommerce, professional services, museums and government.
In 2003 Mike and Gillian set up Clarity in Marketing with a clear goal to deliver ethical, measurable and creative marketing that adds lasting value to clients’ businesses and generates tangible results that delight all their stakeholders. Mike sees creativity and innovation as being vital to meeting this goal and working with a diverse range of clients, including pub companies, professional bodies and retailers, provides a cross-fertilization of ideas essential to that process.
Mike has particular experience using both digital and traditional media in the following areas:

Burhan Aytac, Business Manager
Burhan graduated from Middlesex University School of Business in 2001 with a BA Hons in International Management. He speaks Turkish and English as first languages.
Coming from a retail clothing background with both parents being specialist tailors, Burhan moved into the luxury retail sector working for brands which included Gucci and John Richmond.
After achieving great fashion retail knowledge he joined the Clarity team as a Business Manager to attract and maintain new and existing clients.
Bernie is an experienced consultant who works with a variety of clients. For instance with Spitalfields E1 his role includes liaison and relationship building with the retailers. He is also actively involved in implementation of marketing activities, developing brands and best practice guidelines to help improve the quality, service and turnover for clients such as Charles Wells, T M Lewin, Buzzacott (accountants), Hoodless Brennan (stockbrokers),BTR (racing & property/hotels).
Peter Ward, Graphic Design
Peter has over 15 years experience as a graphic designer. After graduating from Bristol he worked as a freelance illustrator and designer for 3 years. On moving to London he took a position with Progress Advertising as an Art Director/Designer.
After holding senior design positions at Judge Advertising and Moore Marketing he moved to Revolution as a Creative Director where he developed brands for companies such as Cable and Wireless, Marks and Spencer, BAA and Lloyds of London.
Neil Quiddington, Graphic Design
Neil Graduated from Canterbury College of Art & Design in 1989 with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Graphic Design.
After working at Sears Davies Designers gaining experience on corporate literature and corporate identity projects for blue chip clients, he moved to Via Design, a packaging and brand development company.
Neil then spent a couple of years as a freelance Graphic designer/art director in London and in the USA to gain invaluable experience of the American design industry. After a time in New York and San Francisco he was offered a one year contract in Colorado working for Corporate Branding specialists Robert Taylor Design.
He has been working with Clarity In Marketing since 2003 helping clients to communicate effectively and excitingly through design.
Naomi Byrne, PR Specialist
Naomi has worked in PR for over 10 years and has successfully planned and implemented communications campaigns from concept to delivery at local, national and international levels for blue chip, retail, technology and a range of FMCG clients.
Her strength is developing long-term client relationships where her broad skills in a number of different disciplines come into play. Aside from her general PR skills, Naomi is proficient in providing strategic counsel, running messaging workshops, managing large-scale international events, undertaking global PR co-ordination, trade shows and when called upon, crisis management.
Naomi has a BA Hons Humanities and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Advanced Certificate. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and an affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Julia Whitehead, Research Specialist
Julia is a graduate in psychology and after a career as a counsellor, she chose to switch from people to brands.
Since then Julia has specialised in qualitative retail research for more than 15 years. In her research she has worked with all the major supermarkets and a long list of other retailers and suppliers.
Together with Clarity in Marketing, Julia is able to offer a wide variety of research formats from in depth interviews, face to face, individually; groups or telephone. Guided shopping trips, short intercepts, vox box interviews, mystery shopping & online surveys. The findings can help with distribution & retailer relationships, product, packaging and in store positioning as well as branding, promotion and service.
Other clients include those in Electrical, health and personal care, fashion, cars and luxury goods.
